LOS ANGELES -- Matt Kemp apparently has regained the home run stoke that made him runner-up in the MVP race three seasons ago. Now its just a matter of staying healthy and retaining his everyday job in centre field for the Los Angeles Dodgers. Kemp hit his first two home runs at Dodger Stadium since late in 2012, helping Los Angeles beat the San Francisco Giants 6-2 Sunday night to avoid a three-game sweep. "It always feels good to hit home runs here in Dodger Stadium, especially with the home crowd," Kemp said. "It has been a while, so I was pretty excited to do that. It can be tough to hit home runs here at times, but it looked like the ball was carrying a little bit tonight." Hanley Ramirez also slugged his first two homers of the season in support of Zack Greinke (2-0). The right-hander pitched six innings, allowing two runs and six hits -- including Brandon Belts fourth homer leading off the sixth, and the first of the season by Hunter Pence three batters later. Greinke struck out eight and walked none. Matt Cain (0-1) gave up five runs and six hits in six innings with three strikeouts and no walks. It was the eighth time the right-hander has surrendered three or more homers in a game during his 10-year career, and the first time since May 16, 2013 at Colorado in an 8-6 win. The Dodgers last run off him came on Andre Ethiers sacrifice fly in the sixth. Kemp, who hit a career-high 39 home runs in 2011, entered Sunday with two homers and three RBIs in 54 career at-bats against Cain. "I made three really big mistakes to guys who can drive the ball well. Thats what ended up changing the game and thats what ended up costing us," Cain said. "I dont want to nibble and I dont want to go away from the strike zone. Im going to try to attack guys. Obviously, you want to keep the ball in the park, but Ive always been a guy that can elevate the ball. But sometimes when its elevated to certain guys and you leave in certain areas, its prone to go out." Cain, who gave up a career-worst 23 home runs last season, threw Kemp a 1-0 pitch that ended up in the pavilion seats in left-centre with two out in the second. It ended the two-time All-Stars homerless drought of 140 at-bats at Chavez Ravine since his go-ahead two-run shot off Colorados Jorge De La Rosa on Sept. 30, 2012. Kemp did it again his next time up, this time to right-centre on an 0-1 delivery after a double by Adrian Gonzalez. It was his sixth career multihomer game and first since Sept. 29, 2012. "Cains a tough pitcher and he throws a lot of different pitches," Kemp said. "So I was just looking to get a ball over the plate, and he gave me a couple of them over the plate and I put some good swings on them and did what I needed to do. My second home run, thats when I know Im seeing the ball good. When Im driving the ball to right field." Kemp was activated from the disabled list on Friday, after injuries limited him to 73 games last season and forced him to undergo surgery on his is left ankle and shoulder. Manager Don Mattingly chose not to start Kemp in the series opener, but reversed his decision after benching right fielder Yasiel Puig for arriving late to the ballpark. Puig didnt play Sunday, either. This time it was because of a swollen left thumb, which occurred on Saturday when he made a headfirst slide into first base on an infield hit. Puig finished that game, then left the ballpark earlier Sunday to get an MRI exam before rejoining his teammates in the dugout before the start of this one. The MRI showed a strained ligament in the thumb. Ramirez homered to centre field in the eighth against David Huff, capping his 15th career multihomer game. Giants centre fielder Angel Pagan singled his first two times up for San Franciscos only hits through the first four innings -- and robbed Greinke of an extra-base hit in the third with a diving catch in left-centre. Greinke got his first hit of the season his next time up, however, driving a ground-rule double to left-centre in the fifth. NOTES: The Giants begin their home schedule Tuesday night, with Tim Hudson making his official debut with the team against Arizonas Trevor Cahill. ... Mattingly has decided to back off on LHP Hyun-Jim Ryu and give him an extra days rest after he started three of the teams first six games due to Clayton Kershaws first career stint on the disabled list. ... Dodgers RHP Josh Beckett, whose season debut has been delayed by calf and ankle issues after he underwent thoracic outlet syndrome surgery last year, threw a bullpen session Sunday and could start Wednesdays interleague game against Detroit. cheap jerseys from china . The Colorado Avalanche have signed defenceman Nate Guenin to a two-year contract extension. The Denver Post reports that the deal is worth $750,000 in the first season and $850,000 in the second. Guenin, 31, has four assists and a team-high 86 blocked shots in 38 games with the Avalanche this season. "Nate has been very consistent during the first half of the season," Avalanche executive vice president of hockey operations Joe Sakic said in a statement. "He has been a reliable member of our defense and we are pleased to have him under contract for the next couple of years." Guenin would have become an unrestricted free agent this summer. EDMONTON -- Goals have not come easy this season for the Edmonton Oilers, but you wouldnt have known it from Tuesday night. David Perron had a career high four-point night with two goals and two assists as the Oilers experienced an offensive explosion, blasting the Columbus Blue Jackets 7-0 to record a rare home win for their second victory in a row. "We played the right way," Perron said. "More games like that are going to happen if we do that. I doubt its going to be 7-0 every night, but I feel that we did get some bounces tonight. Its nice to get a decisive win like that, compared to (Saturdays 4-2 come-from-behind win over Calgary) where I didnt feel we deserved it, but we found a way." Oilers goalie Devan Dubnyk only needed 14 saves to record his first shutout of the season. Jordan Eberle, Ryan Smyth, Nail Yakupov, Taylor Hall and Justin Schultz also scored for the Oilers (6-12-2), who improved to just 2-7-0 in Edmonton this season. Edmonton was 2-9-1 in its previous 12 games before putting together just its second back-to-back win this year. "The wins have been few and far between and to have a game like that, especially at home, its good for the team, but more importantly its good for our fans," said Oilers head coach Dallas Eakins. "Theyve been suffering just as much as we have. Its nice to give them something to go home feeling good about." Yakupov said it wasnt just the offensive output, it was shutting the door the other way as well. "We didnt give up anything," he said. "I didnt think we played awesome for 60 minutes, but I thought defensively, we played well. We played man-on-man and we were winning battles. I think we showed the fans how were capable of playing. We felt pretty comfortable out there." The mood was completely different in the other dressing room as the Blue Jackets (7-11-3) have lost in four of their last five and nine of their last 11 games. "That was disgusting," said Columbus forward Nick Foligno. "We knew what kind of team they are and we played right into their hands. It is on everybody in this room, it is embarrassing. We handed them goals and gave them power plays and opportunities. It was really tough to be a part of this. I hope we have hit rock bottom here and understand that we are not a team that can play like this. "This is the lowest of lows." Blue Jackets head coach Todd Richards was left shaking his head after the poor performance. "Im just really, really disappointed," he said. "We werent ready to play the game. We werent ready to battle or do the things necessary to win. There was no desperation and no urgency. I dont know if we get too high on ourselves. You are going to have no success in this league, and it was proven first-hand tonight, if you arent ready and willing to battle. This is what will happen to you." The Oilers started the scoring two-and-a-half minutes into the opening period as the rebound on a Corey Potter point shot came to Eberle at the side of the net and he had a wide-open cage to deposit it into before Columbus starter Sergei Bobrovsky could get across. Edmonton came into the game with only one goal in its previous four home games. The Oilers had been outscored 23-3 in their previous six home games, continued on to equal that goal output in the first period alone thanks to a pair of power-play gooals.dddddddddddd Edmonton made it 2-0 with eight minutes remaining in the first as Perron intercepted a pass with his skate and shifted it to his stick for a quick shot and then swooped in to deposit the rebound for his sixth of the season. Four minutes later, the Oilers had a rare three-goal lead, as Sam Gagner sent a pass through the crease and Smyth was able to bat it out of the air and in. Edmonton had 15 shots in the first, while the Blue Jackets only mustered three shots on Dubnyk. The Oilers took a 4-0 lead eight-and-a-half minutes into the second as the puck came to Perron off of a face-off win by Boyd Gordon and he picked the top corner with a shot from a bad angle for his third goal in the last two games. Curtis McElhinney came in to replace Bobrovsky, who allowed four goals on 18 shots. It didnt take long for the Oilers to get one past the back-up goalie either, as Perron made a terrific play to intercept a clearing attempt on an Edmonton power play and got a shot on net, with Yakupov following up to score his fourth of the season on the rebound with nine minutes to play in the second. Columbus had its best chance of the game to that point less than a minute later as Ryan Johansen got in tight on the Edmonton net, but Dubnyk made a good play to poke the puck away. The offensive explosion continued for the Oilers with just under five minutes to play in the second as Schultz joined the play on an odd-man rush and beat McElhinney with a shot high to the glove side. It was the 10th straight goal the Oilers had scored in less than a 60-minute span going back to a four-goal third period to defeat the Flames 4-2 in Calgary on Saturday. Edmonton was looking for more midway through the third but Gagner was unable to score his first goal of the season, sending a shot into a mostly empty net right on McElhinney who was down and doing snow angels in the crease on the play. The Oilers made it 7-0 with three minutes left as Eberle sent Hall in on a breakaway and he was able to score five-hole on the Jackets netminder. Notes: It was the first of just two meetings between the two teams this season. The Oilers will quickly return the favour by visiting Columbus on Nov. 29a It was the first time the first and second overall picks from the 2012 NHL Entry faced each other in the pro ranks. Edmonton, who won the draft lottery, jumped ahead of Columbus to select forward Yakupov. Columbus followed up that pick by taking defender Ryan Murray. After missing last season with a shoulder surgery, Murray came into the game with two goals and two assists in 20 games. In his second season, Yakupov had just three goals and three assists, but added a goal and an assist in this gamea Goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov was on the Oilers bench as the backup to Dubnyk for the first time after signing as a free agent last week. No announcement has been made as to when he is expected to make his first starta Jackets goalie Bobrovsky served as Bryzgalovs back-up in Philadelphia for a season before getting traded to Columbus prior to the lockout-shortened campaign. He went 21-11-6 with a 2.00 GAA and four shutouts with the Blue Jackets last season, winning the Vezina Trophya Sophomore defenceman Justin Schultz made his return to the Oilers lineup after missing the previous eight games with a groin injurya Columbus winger Matt Calvert is expected to make his return from abdominal surgery some time this week. cheap jerseys Cheap NFL Jerseys ' ' '

По умолчанию camp rosters before the first cut
DETROIT -- Ndamukong Suh will be a no-show at the Detroit Lions voluntary minicamp this week. Suh wont be in Allen Park, Mich., on Tuesday with his teammates, a person familiar with the situation told The Associated Press. The person, who said Suh will attend the teams voluntary workouts in May and mandatory minicamp next month, spoke Monday night on condition of anonymity because the defensive tackle was not announcing his plans. Detroits first-year coach Jim Caldwell said last week he wished Suh was at previous voluntary workouts. Caldwell added that he has spoken to Suh more than any other player on the team since being hired. The two-time All-Pro has skipped voluntary workouts in the past, and the 6-foot-4, 307-pound Suh has stayed in good shape. He has not missed a game because of an injury in his four-year career. He was suspended for two games in 2011 for stomping on an opponent. Suh is entering the last year of his contract, and is scheduled to count more than $20 million against the salary cap this season. Lions president Tom Lewand has insisted it does not matter when a deal gets done with Suh even though a new contract could be restructured in a way that gives the team some short-term flexibility to make more moves this off-season. Lewand has sounded optimistic an agreement will eventually be reached with Suh, drafted with the No. 2 pick overall in 2010. Caldwell told people at a season ticket holders gathering that Suh is a thoughtful individual, who has his life planned out Detroit defensive co-ordinator Teryl Austin said last week that Suh is "worth every penny," because he can disrupt what offences want to do in the passing and running game. Suh has cost himself some money with his on-field actions, including an infamous stomp on the right arm of Green Bays Evan Dietrich-Smith in a nationally televised game on Thanksgiving in 2011. The NFL was fined seven times for more than $200,000, leading to some in the league saying hes a dirty player. Suh has been able to afford it financially because he signed a five-year contract worth up to $68 million, but his reputation has taken a hit. Suh had a career-high 10 sacks as a rookie and has made 27 1/2 sacks in his career. As a captain last season, he had 5 1/2 sacks. Saku Koivu Jersey . PALM BEACH, Fla. -- Instant replay and injured reserve -- the NFLs IRs -- will be main topics as the owners consider several rules changes at their spring meetings this week. The Buffalo Bills have proposed having the booth official make all decisions on replay reviews instead of referees. Under another suggestion, the booth official also would be allowed to review all turnovers just as he now does for all scoring plays. "This is a proposal that will definitely, I think, generate discussion, but I think it was directed at trying to speed it up," said Rich McKay, president of the Atlanta Falcons and chairman of the competition committee. "The thing about our system is we developed our system based on our experience the last time. Thats how we developed the idea that the referee would be the decision maker because we felt like he had the best ability to one, talk to the on-field official and two, have complete command of the rules and the application of them." Last year, the committee recommended having the booth official review all scoring plays and now it is proposing expanding his duties to all turnovers. That should help coaches in deciding when to use their challenges. "We took scoring plays from the coaches and put it upstairs as an automatic review for him to confirm," McKay said of the replay official. "If he felt it needed to be reviewed by the referee, then he stopped the game. We would use that same procedure for turnovers: fumbles, interceptions and the like." A change to the injured reserve requirements for a designated player would be the first alteration in rules for that list since 1993. Until 1990, IR players had to sit out six games, and until 93 that became four games. Then the league clamped down on teams that "hid" prospects they might lose if released by placing them on IR even if their injuries were minor -- or nonexistent. "Im going to call it an injured reserve exception for major injury to a designated player," McKay said. "Traditionally, in our system, injured reserve players have been out for the year. In this case, if that player was on the roster all the wway through the first regular-season weekend, then you could put that player on injured reserve, designate that player for return and the player could begin to practice six weeks after he has gone on that list.dddddddddddd And play in games eight weeks after he has gone on that list. " Another proposal will allow each team to designate one player per week who can go on the inactive list because of a concussion and be replaced on the roster. The NFL rarely tinkered with overtime until two years ago, when the Saints won the NFC title by winning the coin toss to start the extra period, marching downfield and kicking a field goal. Beginning in the 2010 season, that scenario required the team that lost the toss to get a possession, but only in the playoffs. That rule change has had no impact thus far, but the Steelers want it as part of the regular season, too. The leagues coaches subcommittee and the players union support the change. "What the coaches feeling was ... strategically they like to prepare the same way in the regular season that they do in the post-season," McKay said, "and they really dont want to have different rules and have to change their approach to overtime." NFL owners also will consider moving the trading deadline from after the sixth week of the schedule to after the eighth week. McKay said the hope is to generate more deals. "The trade deadline has traditionally been a little disappointing," he said. "There is a lot of talk about it but then not very many transactions because of the nature of our sport being such a team sport. But our thought is that there could potentially be more trades now because of the salary cap and adjustment to it, and this was a way to give people a little more leeway." Also proposed is allowing teams to have 90 players on the off-season and training camp rosters before the first cut, but counting unsigned draft choices. In the past, those unsigned players were not part of the 80-man rosters. McKay said the final cutdown to 53 could be moved up one day to Friday, Aug. 31 because the opening game will be played on a Wednesday night this year. cheap jerseys Cheap NFL Jerseys ' ' '

По умолчанию fourth straight loss despite a stinging
CEDAR PARK, Texas -- With a two-goal lead early in the second period, Toronto Marlies coach Steve Spott knew the Texas Stars would make a surge in Game 7 of the Western Conference Finals. Unfortunately for Toronto, that surge was too much to handle as the Stars scored six straight goals and ended the Marlies season with a 6-2 victory on Tuesday. Toronto had built a 2-0 lead on goals by Frazer McLaren and Peter Holland, but Texas charged back with a wild rally late in the second period to spark its trip to the Calder Cup final. "Two mistakes, first we made a bad line change then we took a bad penalty 200-feet from Drew (MacIntyre), and all of sudden its 2-2," Spott said. "Theyre a good team, give them credit, but we made some bad mistakes." After killing off a hooking penalty by Patrik Nemeth, Texas scored on its 26th shot of the game when Mike Hedden tipped home a pass from Ritchie with 2:38 left in the period. Less than a minute later Texas tied the game when Jeffrey scored on the power play. It gave Texas goals on back-to-back shots after Drew MacIntyre had stopped the first 25. Tied 2-2 after the second period, Brett Ritchie and Matej Stransky scored 17 seconds apart to give the Stars a 4-2 lead. Justin Dowling gave the Stars another insurance goal with 5:28 remaining, while Dustin Jeffrey scored his second goal of the night into an empty net. It was Dowlings first game of the series after suffering an arm injury against the Grand Rapids Griffins in Game 5 of the second round. Reunited on a line with Hedden and Ritchie, he was on the ice for four of the Stars goals. "I wasnt expecting to play tonight," Dowling said. "Things kind of just unfolded how they did. I benefited a lot from going to Dallas and getting their treatment from their guys up there a Im very grateful to be back." MacIntyre stopped 44-of-49 shots for Toronto and was under siege for most of the night. Cristopher Nilstorp stopped 24-of-26 shots for Texas. His biggest stop came midway through the second period when he stopped Brandon Kozun with the left pad, turning away a flurry by the Marlies and allowed Texas to tie the game later in the frame. "Oh, that was a big save," Stars coach Willie Desjardins. "I thought that was going (in). He made some real good saves a Nilstorp was real solid throughout the series and there were a couple games where he stopped it from getting away on us." Before jostling with the Stars for seven games, the Marlies had rolled through the first two rounds of the playoffs. After the loss on Tuesday, Spott took a moment to look at the future for his young team. "Next year our plan is to take this another step farther," Spott said. "The frustrating thing is we were in a good spot here tonight up 2-0. We just had a couple mental mistakes that cost us." Texas will play the St. Johns IceCaps in the Calder Cup final. San Jose (2-3-4) stretched its unbeaten streak at home to three matches despite losing winger Shea Salinas to a straight red card after a studs-up tackle on Dallas defender Zach Loyd just before halftime. FC Dallas (5-5-1) slid to its fourth straight loss despite a stinging 20-yard free-kick goal by Michel in the 76th minute. Cato burst in behind the Dallas defence to give San Jose a 1-0 lead in the 25th minute, set free by a long pass forward by goalkeepeer Jon Busch and a redirecting header from centre back Clarence Goodson.dddddddddddd It was the first career assist for Busch, a 14-year MLS veteran. San Jose doubled its lead off an own goal by Dallas substitute David Texeira in the 73rd minute, providing enough of a cushion to withstand Michels strike. The Earthquakes held on in the second half. Victor Ulloa banged a shot off the post in the 57th minute, and Busch scrambled across his goalmouth to deliver a body block on Blas Perezs rebound try. По умолчанию one second behind. Still
OTTAWA -- Dont panic, its just pre-season. That was the message from the Ottawa Senators, even if a 4-1 loss to the New York Islanders in their final pre-season game showed they still have work to do. "Obviously we were bad, especially in the first two (periods)," said defenceman Marc Methot on Sunday. "The one upside I thought was that we actually turned it up in the third period and played a lot better, but its pre-season, half our squad is missing so you can only take so much from that." It was a rough night all around for the Senators as the other half of the team was beat 5-2 by the Islanders in Barrie, Ont. Riley Wetmore, Ryan Strome, Ryan Pulock and Brock Nelson scored for the Islanders. Evgeni Nabokov allowed one goal on 15 shots through two periods and Ken Reiter faced 11 shots in the third. Jean-Gabriel Pageau scored the lone Ottawa goal as Craig Anderson faced 23 shots. Head coach Paul MacLean was far from impressed by his teams performance and said it "left a sour taste in our mouth." While there was little to take from the game MacLean felt there was a valuable lesson to be learned. "This is a hard league and if you dont come prepared to play and work any team in this league can beat you," said MacLean. "That team that played us flat outworked us in every area of the game and deserved to win and that should give us a real good wake-up call going into next week." While players didnt want to make excuses, they admitted knowing it was the last game of the pre-season may have played a part in their poor showing. "You want to end pre-season on a good note and feel good about yourselves and you certainly cant after that performance and the way the 20 guys played out there, but at the end of the day it didnt cost us any points," said Bobby Ryan. "(Friday) cant come soon enough. Its a long camp." The Senators seemed to struggle right from the start. Wetmore opened the scoring 16:48 into the first period. Anderson made the stop on Kirill Kabanovs wraparound, but Wetmore buried the rebound. Less than a minute later Strome put the Isles ahead 2-0. The Islanders made it 3-0 in the second on Pulocks power-play goal as he beat a screened Anderson. Nelsons goal just over three minutes later left MacLean fuming as he lit into his team during a commercial break. Shortly after the Senators showed some life as Pageau took a great pass from Cody Ceci to get on the board. Ottawa finally managed to create some chances in the third, but Reiter was solid in relief of Nabokov. The Senators will take Monday off and hit the ice Tuesday with the 22 or 23 players they expect to start the season with on Friday when they visit on the Buffalo Sabres. After Hansdotter could not match her time, it was down to Bernadette Schild -- nine years younger at 23 and seeking her first win -- to stop her sibling equalling the record. "She wouldnt have got any Christmas presents," Marlies Schild said after winning her third straight race at Courchevel, but her first since winning a slalom race at Soldeu-Grandvalira in Andorra in February 2012. "Its a very big (weight) falling off my body and my heart. Its nearly two years ago since my last victory. Everyone was asking and asking what the problem was. I wasnt feeling very good for a long time now." Canadas Marie-Michele Gagnon finished sixth to continue her hot start to the Olympic season. The 24-year-old from Lac-Etchemin, Que., cemented her reputation as a multi-discipline medal contender for the 2014 Sochi Olympics on a challenging course. "Im showing consistency. Im excited," said Gagnon, who also competes in giant slalom, super-G, super combined and sometimes downhill. "I really feel like Im in a magical moment right now. "It was not an easy one today, thats for sure. Especially with not training slalom for a long time, I just wanted to make it down so for sure Im happy." Gagnon was fifth in the slalom and 10th in the giant slalom in the opening World Cup, then added a sixth and a 10th-place finish in super-G races earlier this month. She looked poised for her first World Cup podium in giant slalom last weekend before she went out four gates from the finish. Brittany Phelan, of Mont-Tremblant, Que., was 27th on Tuesday while Elli Terwiel of Sun Peaks, B.C., didnt qualify for the second run. Erin Mielzynski of Collingwood, Ont., and Mikaela Tommy, of Wakefield, Que., were among 25 racers who didnt finish their first runs. Matching Schneiders record from 1986-95 was an extra bonus for Schild. "Lindsey (Vonn) was always saying If you make records, its the only thing you remember. I dont think thats the main thing," Marlies said. "Its just that (it means) you are a good skier when you break records. Im glad that its over now." Last season, she stopped racing in March to recover from another knee injury, but the hunger to keep going fuelled her recovery. "I lost some years because of injuries and always had the feeling that I could do moore, and thats the reason Im still here," she said.dddddddddddd "I had back problems and knee surgery. I didnt know if I could do it again. I was thinking a lot, I was thinking too much. But now Ive got my self-confidence back." World champion Mikaela Shiffrin, who was seventh after the first run, finished 12th. She won the seasons opening slalom at Levi, Finland, last month, but it has been a miserable few days for the 18-year-old. After failing to finish Sundays giant slalom in St. Moritz, this was her lowest finish since placing 13th in GS at Maribor, Slovenia, in January, and her lowest slalom finish since 15th in Schladming, Austria, in March 2012. "I think I needed that today. I cant win everything. I dont think its good to win everything (because) then I just become complacent," she said. "So I need to know that Marlies is back. Thats the coolest thing for me because its nice to know Im not the Snow Queen." She expects fierce competition from Marlies over the next few months. "For her it wasnt even that impressive. Thats saying something. Shes an amazing skier and I kept saying that I thought she was the best slalom skier," Shiffrin said. "I dont think I own that title, I think she owns it." Tessa Worley, the Frenchwoman who won a giant slalom in St. Moritz last weekend, was taken to hospital after falling back on her skis and tearing a right knee ligament in the first run. The International Ski Federation said she will miss the rest of the season, ruling her out of the Sochi Olympics in February. Bernadette was .13 seconds faster than Hansdotter and .20 clear of her elder sister after the first run. Marlies, who took slalom bronze at the 2006 Olympics, flew down the Stade Emile Allais course on her second run -- .80 seconds faster than Zettel on the first split, .80 quicker on the second, and 1.43 quicker as she crossed the line. Bernadette was more than one second behind. Still, she earned a big hug from Marlies at the finish line for securing her second career podium result, after finishing second at Lenzerheide, Switzerland, in March. Being in the unfamiliar position of leading the race gave her some added stress. "It wasnt too easy to me. I had to breathe deeply to get my heart rate down," Bernadette said. "Its different to stand up there when youre the last one down." Worley, the giant slalom world champion, toppled backward before twisting forward and landing in the safety netting. She slowly got back up, and was taken to a hospital in Lyon. No further information was immediately available. "I feel bad for her. She was in really good shape," Marlies said. "I know what its like to have so many injuries." Anthony Sechaud, coach of the French women, said the injury likely occurred when Worley got her leg tangled up in the protective netting. cheap jerseys Cheap NFL Jerseys ' ' '

WEST POINT, N.Y. -- When fifth-ranked Stanford went to the locker room at halftime leading Army by only seven points, head coach David Shaw realized he neednt worry. "What I love about the team today is that, when people tell you youre supposed to win the game by a lot, you come in at halftime and its close, if you listened to the outside people youd get a little anxious," Shaw said. "In the locker room at halftime, we were not anxious. We knew we had to play our best, came out in the second half, and played great." Played to a near standstill the first two quarters by a 30-point underdog, the Cardinal regrouped in the second half and beat the Black Knights 34-20 on Saturday. Kevin Hogan threw for three touchdowns and Tyler Gaffney had two touchdowns and 132 yards rushing for the Cardinal (2-0). Still, Stanford had its hands full against Armys triple option offence, falling behind 6-0 at the outset as the much smaller Black Knights (1-2) challenged at every turn. "They came out there with a little bit different approach than what we had seen," said defensive end Josh Mauro, who led Stanford with seven tackles. "It just took guys having the will to do their jobs. We made some adjustments in the second half to stop the inside run. We got the look all week, but its so much different when youre actually doing it. All the credit to them. They played their butts off." Hogans 23-yard touchdown pass to Gaffney after an Army turnover gave Stanford a 27-13 lead late in the third quarter and the Cardinal averted an embarrassing moment. Army has not defeated a ranked team since a 17-14 win over No. 15 Air Force on Nov. 4, 1972. "We kept our calm. We tried to keep an even keel," Gaffney said after his second straight solid performance following a year of minor league baseball. "We went out there knowing that six points wasnt going to win the game. We went out there with the same mindset, keep grinding. We didnt overlook them. We had to keep grinding. We were down. Adversity stepped in and we responded." Ty Montgomery had six catches for 130 yards and one score, while Hogan was 11 of 18 for 188 yards passing for Stanford. Terry Baggett led Army with 96 yards rushing on nine carries. Done in by three turnovers and eight penalties in a 40-14 loss last week at Ball State, Army needed to play a flawless game against the Cardinal to have a fighting chance and acquitted itself well. The Black Knights forced the lone turnover of the first half as neither team was penalized before the break. The most critical play came in the third quarter. Trailing 20-13 and poised to tie the game, Army quarterback Angel Santiago botched a third-down handoff after the Black Knights had driven into Stanford territory, and James Vaughters recovered the fumble for the Cardinal. Montgomerys 27-yard catch on a third-and-7 play set up Gaffneys touchdown catch. "We didnt play the game we wanted to play," Baggett said. "Our goal coming into the game was to win. There were about three offensive plays offensively that changed this game. We have to make those plays every time. Its a step in the right direction, but its not the final step for us." Army failed on a fourth-and-1 play early in the fourth quarter inside its own 30 and the Cardinal secured the victory on Gaffneys 1-yard run. Stanfords rushing defence has posted the best numbers in school history the past two seasons, allowing 84.4 yards per game in 2011 and 97 per game last year. Armys triple option led the nation in rushing both years, averaging a school-record 369.8 yards per game and accumulating 4,438 yards on the ground in 2012. The Black Knights, despite the loss of four-year starter Trent Steelman at quarterback, entered Saturdays game on pace for another strong year, averaging 329 yards rushing in splitting their first two games. Not quite so effective without Raymond Maples and Larry Dixon, who were hurt in the game and sat much of it, the Black Knights still finished with 284 yards rushing on 61 carries, and inspired play by the Army defence kept the game close for most of the first three quarters. "They didnt do anything different. Weve seen everything they did on film," Mauro said. "Its just so different actually being out there, the speed they go. Those linemen are undersized, but theyre the quickest offensive line probably in the nation. Those guys are really good at what they do. Its hard to simulate that in four days and do it on Saturday, actually see the real thing." Jonas Hiller Ducks Jersey . The Blue Jackets entered this series against the Metropolitan Division champions as heavy underdogs, but they sit tied with the Penguins at two wins apiece. Columbus has arrived at this point with a pair of overtime victories, including a 4-3 triumph in Wednesdays Game 4 clash at Nationwide Arena that gave the franchise its first home playoff win. Dane Fox, Sondre Olden and Luke Cairns all scored in the shootout as Erie reached double digits in wins with a 3-2 victory over the Guelph Storm in Ontario Hockey League action Wednesday. Cairns shootout goal was the winner once Otters goalie Ramis Sadikov stopped Hunter Garlent on the games final attempt. Sadikov finished with 40 saves in regulation and overtime for Erie (10-45-5) and stopped two more on four shots in the shootout. Cairns and Connor Brown had a goal and assist each as the Otters snapped a three-game losing streak. Garlent and Kyle Pereira scored in regulation as Guelph (25-28-6) was unable to secure a critical extra point in the OHLs Western Conference standiings.dddddddddddd. The Storm (56 points) are now tied with Sault Ste. Marie, which beat Sarnia 8-2 at home Wednesday, for the eighth and final playoff spot. The Storm have two games in hand and nine games left overall. Phoenix burned a quick timeout after the Utah Jazz scored the games first nine points. It gave the Suns a chance to assess what went wrong and change course before Utah could snowball a small run into a much larger one. Phoenix turned it around with an aggressive offensive approach and put six players in double figures in a 112-101 victory over the Jazz on Friday night. "We just tried to push the ball," guard Goran Dragic said. "Tried to get to the middle of the paint and tried to find open guys. When we share the ball, were a really dangerous team." Markieff Morris came off the bench to score 23 points on 8-of-13 shooting to lead all scorers. Dragic had 19 points and nine assists, while reserve point guard Eric Bledsoe also chipped in 19. Miles Plumlee added 15 points and 10 rebounds. The Suns beat Utah for the second time this month and did it through near-perfect offensive execution for four quarters. Phoenix had no trouble getting into an offensive rhythm, shooting 41 of 75 (54.7 per cent) from the field. The Suns turned over the ball just eight times and generated 18 assists. They kept Utah at a comfortable distance for much of the game despite a strong offensive outing for the Jazz. Marvin Williams had 18 points and Alec Burks added 16 off the bench as Utah shot 48 per cent. The Jazz also had 39-30 edge on the glass. Utah outscored Phoenix 60-52 in the paint and had a 20-11 advantage in second chance points. But Phoenix shook off everything the Jazz did on the offensive end by matching them shot for shot from outside and inside. "Everybody is getting involved," Morris said. "Were getting a lot of 3-pointers. Were a great 3-point shooting team. Were doing a great job of getting the ball inside and doing the pick-and-roll really well. Thats basically it. Our guards have done a great job of finding players and getting them the ball." The Jazz made four straight baskets to open the game - culminating in a 3-pointer from Williams to make it 9-0. Phoenix regrouped after a quick timeout and the Suns quickly erased the Jazz lead behind hot shooting from Dragiic.dddddddddddd The Jazz clung to a slim lead until Dragic buried a 3-pointer to put Phoenix back in front at 44-42. It was the beginning of a 13-3 run that helped the Suns take control of the game before halftime. Morris capped the spurt with a 3-pointer, extending Phoenixs lead to 54-45 with 3:25 left before halftime. "They made shots," Jazz coach Tyrone Corbin said. "They got what they wanted. They had us spread out, they got drives and they got the ball where they wanted to in the initial part of the offence." Weak defence proved to be a huge obstacle for the Jazz through all four quarters. Phoenix shot 24-of-38 (63.2 per cent) from the field and 6-of-13 (46.2 per cent) from the perimeter in the first half alone. With the Suns getting into a good rhythm offensively, creating distance between them and the Jazz was not a difficult task. Phoenix shot 12-of-18 (66.7 per cent) from the floor in the third quarter to break the game open after halftime. The Suns attacked Utah from all over the floor and were able to immediately answer whatever the Jazz did on the offensive end. "We couldnt get stops and they did a great job of executing in the half-court and also in transition," Williams said. "They put a lot of pressure on us every time we got the ball and that was the difference." Utah drew as close as nine points when Williams hit a pair of free throws to make it 78-69 with 5:33 left in the quarter. Morris answered by running off Phoenixs next three baskets to spark a 10-0 run. Bledsoe capped off the spurt by turning a steal into an uncontested layup - giving the Suns an 88-69 lead with 2:46 remaining in the third quarter. Utah and Phoenix play again on Saturday night. NOTES: Bledsoe returned to action after sitting out for almost two weeks with a left shin contusion. . Plumlee racked up his fifth double-double of the season. . Phoenixs 54.7 per cent shooting from the field marked a season-high for the Suns. Their previous best was 52.9 per cent in a 120-106 win over the Portland Trailblazers on Wednesday. . TORONTO - John Davidson will succeed Jim Gregory as chairman of the Hockey Hall of Fame selection committee while Bob Clarke, David Poile and Luc Robitaille will also join as new members. Davidson, the Columbus Blue Jackets president of hockey operations, replaces Gregory as of April 1. Gregory served as chairman for 17 years. "John has been a dedicated member of the selection committee since 1999 and the boards appointment to the chairmans role recognizes his expertise and long-time contribution to the game as a player, media representative and hockey executive along with the fact that he is still very active in the game," Hall of Fame chairman of the board Pat Quinn said in a statement. Clarke, senior vice-president and former general manager of the Philadelphia Flyers, Poile, GM of the Nashville Predators, and Robitaille, Los Angeles Kings president of business operations, succeed Quinn, Gregory and Serge Savard. Gregory and Savard reached the end of their term while Quinn stepped down last year to become chairman of the board. After being on the committee for 21 years, Gregory will stay on in a non-voting capacity. He and the other 18 members will meet June 23 and 24 to determine the Hockey Hall of Fame class of 2014. Josh Jooris and Derek Smith also scored for Abbotsford (34-21-7). Joacim Eriksson made 32 stops for the visiting Comets (26-27-7), while Alex Grenier scored their only goal. Roy had struggled of late, being pulled in three of his last five starts, and allowing 18 goals in that stretch. The Heat opened the scoring on the power play at 12:25, with Jooris redirecting Max Reinharts centring feed on his backhand. Abbotsford dominated the second period, but Eriksson did his best to keep the Comets in the game. Turner Elson drove past a defender while shorthanded midway through the frame, and cut to the front of the net, but Eriksson stayed with him and shut the five-hole in time to keep the Comets within a goal. Eriksson reached across to rob Reinhart on the power play with less than seven minutes to go in the second. The Comets gooaltender robbed Brett Olson at the doorstep on another power play before finally succumbing to the Heat pressure in the final seconds.dddddddddddd. Eriksson kicked out Corey Lockes rebound attempt into the slot, but Connolly stepped into a slap shot that beat the netminders outstretched arm with just 12 seconds to go in the period. Roy was largely untested through two periods but made a few big saves in the final frame. David Marshall redirected Alex Friesens shot, but Roy kicked it away four minutes into the third. Then, on a penalty kill, Roy was solid again, including a big save off Colin Stuart in the slot. The Comets finally got to the 22-year-old netminder at 8:33. Roy stoned Grenier on a backdoor one-timer but the Utica right winger chipped it over the goalie, backing it off a Heat player and in, for his 16th of the year. The Comets had a short power play in the final two minutes but couldnt complete the comeback. Smith added an empty netter with 28 seconds to play. SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Even against the Western Conferences worst teams, nothing is coming easy for the New York Knicks right now. Carmelo Anthony scored 36 points, J.R. Smith tied a franchise-record with nine 3-pointers and the Knicks held off a furious rally to beat the Sacramento Kings 107-99 Wednesday night and move a game closer to the final playoff seed. "We needed all of them, Ill tell you that," Knicks coach Mike Woodson said, shaking his head in relief. A night after a lacklustre 127-96 loss at the Los Angeles Lakers, the Knicks avoided a monumental collapse to another of the leagues cellar-dwellers. New York led by 24 in the third quarter before Sacramento surged back, and the Knicks needed a scintillating shooting performance from its leading men to snap a two-game skid. Smith scored 29 points on 10-for-19 shooting, including 9 for 12 from long distance. Anthony shot 12 for 21 from the floor and 5 of 8 from beyond the arc. "That was big time," Anthony said. New York (30-42) is two games behind Atlanta for the final playoff spot in the weak Eastern Conference after the Hawks (31-39) lost 107-83 to Minnesota. DeMarcus Cousins had 32 points, 15 rebounds and eight assists to carry the Kings, who played without injured point guard Isaiah Thomas (bruised right quadriceps). Ray McCallum made his first start in Thomas place alongside fellow rookie Ben McLemore, and the two shook off a slow start to bring the Kings back. McCallum had 10 points, six rebounds and five assists. McLemore scored 16. But New York outshot Sacramento 54.8 per cent to 47.8 per cent and finished 15 for 26 from 3-point range. "The 3-point line killed us," Kings coach Michael Malone said. "You have J.R. Smith and Carmelo Anthony, thats going to be tough to beat." About the only thing that kept the Kings close most of the night-- besides Cousins -- was free throws. Sacramento shot 27 for 35 on free throws, while New York finished 12 for 13. Sacramento scored the first eight points of the fourth quarter and finished with a flurry of highlights to give the Knicks a scare. Cousins three-point play over Amare Stoudemire trimmed New Yorks lead to 96-94 with 4:30 remaining, sending most of the announced crowd of 15,494 roaring to their feet. Smith answered with a 3-pointer, and Tyson Chandler came back with a dunk to put the Knicks up 101-94. After McCallum made two free throws, Anthonys 15-footer with 1:36 to play sent a cluster of fans to the exits, and the rest soon followed. "We know what they wanted to do," Cousins said, "but we have to go out there and execute." The Knicks already assured themselves of a losing season with an embarrassing loss in Los Angeles on Tuesday night with new team president Phil Jackson in attendance. The former Lakers coach, a longtime nemesis of Kings fans, was nowhere to be found in Sacramento on this night. Not that the Knicks shouldve needed Jacksons presence to get by a rebuilding Kings team that is far from the franchise he often led the Lakers past in the playoffs during Sacramentos glory years. New York took control in the second quarter with 20-6 run highlighted by defence and dunks. Chandler capped the spurt with an alley-oop from Smith that put the Knicks up 54-38. Anthony added two 3-pointers to extend New Yorks lead to 74-50 with 6:17 remaining in the third quarter, slapping his headband with his fingers as he backpedaled on defence each time. Smith squashed Sacramentos final rally by making all three of his 3-point attempts in the fourth, moving the Knicks playoffs hopes back in the right direction. "Ive been to (the playoffs) the last four or five years now, and to be home watching it on TV is not going to be any fun," Woodson said. "So Im desperately pushing these guys to try and get em in there, because then a new season starts and anything is possible." One more victory for the Orange and it will be three titles in three trips. Tyler Ennis scored 28 points and led two key second-half runs that carried No. 8 Syracuse past California 92-81 on Tuesday night in the tournament semifinals. The Orange will play for the championship Wednesday against No. 18 Baylor, which edged Dayton 67-66. Syracuse won the Maui Invitational in 1990 and 1998. "These two games out here have been great games, great for our team," coach Jim Boeheim said. Syracuse scored 51 points in the second half, shooting 55 per cent and making five of seven 3-point attempts. Ennis had 17 points and Trevor Cooney scored 20 of his 23 after the break. "Our guards were unbelievable today and I didnt even know that until I looked at the stat sheet," Boeheim said. "I knew they were pretty good, but they were better." Jerami Grant finished with 19 points while C.J. Fair had 14 points and seven rebounds. Cooney said its different to shoot in a small gym. "We play in a dome, its open, different backdrop and this is totally different for us," Cooney said. "The gym is warm, the legs get going and you can get into a rhythm here and thats what we have been doing." Ennis hit a layup during a nine-point run started by Grants putback dunk. The spurt lasted more than 2 minutes and gave Syracuse (6-0) its fiirst double-digit lead with less than 8 minutes left.dddddddddddd "We probably lost our focus momentarily, and just kind of turned and got careless with the ball," California coach Mike Montgomery said. Justin Cobbs scored 18 points for the Golden Bears (5-1), who will play the Dayton-Baylor loser in the third-place game. The game was close until midway through the second half, with 10 ties and 12 lead changes. Cal tied it at 41 going into halftime when Tyrone Wallace hit two free throws after being fouled on a rebound by Ennis. David Kravish then hit a layup to start the second half, but Ennis responded with his own layup 30 seconds later. Cobbs gave Cal a four-point run to tie the game at 54. He made a nifty pass in traffic to set up Jordan Mathews for a dunk, then stole the ball from Cooney on the next possession and scampered for a dunk. Grant responded with a jumper and Syracuse led the rest of the game. Jabari Bird scored 17 points for Cal and Kravish had 15. The Bears played without Richard Solomon because of an abrasion on his right eye. Solomon started Cals previous five games. "With Solomon being out it was just a different team," Boeheim said. "I thought watching Cal yesterday that their team this year is much better than last years team that we played (in the NCAA tournament)." Syracuse beat Cal last season to reach the Sweet Sixteen on the way to the Final Four. cheap jerseys Cheap NFL Jerseys ' ' '

По умолчанию d its challenge for a top-four finish
TOKYO -- Two-time world champion Mao Asada won the womens short program on Friday to take a huge step toward winning her fourth NHK Trophy. Asada two-footed her opening triple axel but was solid in all other elements to finish with 71.26 points, five ahead of second-placed Japanese compatriot Akiko Suzuki. "I missed the triple axel, but Im not worried about it. Sometimes its good, sometimes its bad," said Asada, who won Skate America, the first Grand Prix of the season. Asada, the 2010 Olympic silver medallist , could secure a place at the GP Final in Fukuoka next month with a podium finish. The NHK and the GP Final are part of Asada s preparations for the Sochi Olympics but she said she wasnt thinking too far ahead. "I wasnt thinking about Sochi, I want to take it one competition at a time this season," Asada said. Gracie Gold of the United States and Elena Radionova were tied for third with 62.83 points. In the mens event, 2010 Olympic bronze medallist Daisuke Takahashi of Japan skated a near flawless routine to "Sonatino for Violin" to take a commanding lead with 95.55 points, more than 10 points ahead of Javier Fernandez of Spain, in second. Japans Nobunari Oda under-rotated his opening quad toe loop to "Cotton Club" and was third with 82.70. Takahashi is aiming to bounce back from a disappointing fourth place at Skate America. "After Skate America my coach (Nikolai Morozov) and other staff said my motivation did not look good," Takahashi said. "I have had to reset myself and show my motivation to make it to the Olympics." Fernandez, the defending European champion, touched the ice with his hand on his quad salchow, but still impressed the judges with the remainder of his program. Adam Rippon of the United States stumbled during his step sequence and was fourth. Russias Tatiana Volosozhar and Maxim Trankov (82.03) lead the pairs, with Chinas Sui Wenjing and Han Cong (70.13) far behind in second. Peng Cheng and Zhang Hao of China were third with 65.09 points. MANCHESTER, England -- Arsenal felt the full force of Manchester Citys rampant attack to slump to a wild 6-3 loss in the English Premier League on Saturday, cutting its lead over Chelsea to two points and throwing the title race wide open. Chelsea pounced on Arsenals implosion at Etihad Stadium by edging past Crystal Palace 2-1 at home, with Ramires scoring the winner to lift Jose Mourinhos team provisionally into second place. But approaching the halfway stage of the campaign, City is likely to be most peoples favourite for the title after following up big home wins over Manchester United and Tottenham already this season with another masterful attacking display against Arsenal. What had been the tightest defence in the league was ripped apart, with Citys eighth straight home win sealed by goals from Fernandinho (two), Sergio Aguero, Alvaro Negredo, David Silva and Yaya Toure. City enhanced its tag as the leagues entertainers -- it has 35 goals in eight home matches, including six past Spurs and four past United -- and is a point adrift of Chelsea in third. "It was a very complete game in attacking," City manager Manuel Pellegrini said. "It is not easy to score six goals against Arsenal, the best defence in the Premier League." Everton brushed past Fulham 4-1 with three late goals to jump to fourth, while Newcastle drew 1-1 with Southampton in a match that saw the referee receive a bloody nose after accidentally colliding with a player, and ended in a scuffle between the two benches. West Bromwich Albion fired head coach Steve Clarke hours after a 1-0 loss at Cardiff, the visitors fourth reverse in a row, and there were 0-0 draws for West Ham-Sunderland and Hull-Stoke. Arguably the standout match this season lived up to its billing, with weary Arsenal run ragged by City less than three days after the Gunners grueling defeat in the Champions League at Napoli. Arsenals title credentials were always going to be tested in this crucial three-game period, starting with last weekends 1-1 draw at Everton and ending with a home match at Chelsea on Dec. 23, and cracks have been ffound.dddddddddddd "We made too many mistakes," Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger said. "Our strength until now was our defensive discipline but that went as the game went on." The prolific strike pairing of Aguero and Negredo put City 2-1 up by halftime, with Theo Walcotts goal having made it 1-1. Fernandinho scored in the 50th, moments after Aguero went off with a calf injury only for Walcott to score again, but Arsenals creaking defence was breached in the final 24 minutes by Silva, Fernandinho and Toures penalty. Per Mertesacker netted Arsenals other goal in injury time. Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere could face disciplinary action after being pictured raising his middle finger toward Citys fans during the second half. With Liverpool not playing until Sunday, Chelsea is Arsenals closest challenger after an unconvincing win over Palace at Stamford Bridge. Fernando Torres scored in the 16th minute for the Blues before Joel Ward set up Marouane Chamakh to equalize for the visitors in the 29th. Six minutes later, Ramires grabbed the winner with a right-footed shot from outside the area to the top left corner. Everton maintained its challenge for a top-four finish by scoring three goals in the final 17 minutes to see off Fulham. Leon Osmans 18th-minute goal in his 300th league game put Everton ahead but Dimitar Berbatov equalized from the penalty spot in the 67th. Seamus Coleman regained the home sides lead before Gareth Barry and Kevin Mirallas completed the victory. The Newcastle-Southampton game ended with ugly scenes on the sidelines as coaches on both benches clashed in reaction to a foul on the pitch. The goalkeeping coach from each team was sent off. Earlier, referee Mike Jones required treatment for a bloody nose after being floored by the flailing arm of Newcastle midfielder Moussa Sissoko. Peter Whittingham scored the second-half winner for Cardiff against West Brom, which proved to be the end for coach Clarke after 18 months in charge at The Hawthorns. On Sunday, its: Aston Villa vs. Man United, Norwich vs. Swansea and Tottenham vs. Liverpool. cheap jerseys Cheap NFL Jerseys ' ' '
